A Harvest of Songs of Israel

Friday, November 27, 2009 • 8.00 p.m.

A concert featuring the best of Israeli song. Cantor Benjamin Maissner and Cantor Gershon Silins, along with pianist Jose Shapero, will perform songs and duets spanning the history of the State of Israel. With compositions and arrangements by Joel Engel, Marc Lavry, Naomi Shemer, and Yehezkel Braun, the program will include familiar and new songs to delight you. This concert is made possible through a gift from the Carl Mendelsohn Family Endowment Fund.

 

Shabbat Shirah

Saturday January 30, 2010 • 10.00 a.m.

with the Temple Sinai Ensemble Choir

“In the spirit of Moses, Miriam, and all Israel, we respond to the divine call with joy and song!” Come join us on this joyful Shabbat Shirah morning when music from every corner of Temple Sinai comes together to celebrate our liberation from Egypt. Enjoy the harmonies of the Temple Sinai Ensemble Choir, conducted by Cantor Katie Oringel, and the Temple Sinai Youth Choir. Hear the special chanting of the Song of the Sea. Celebrate with instruments from Jose Shapero and Susan Piltch. Bring your voices to join together in song, just as we did upon the shores of the sea!
 

Accent on Youth

Sunday January 31, 2010 • 11.00 a.m.

Our concert features the Temple Sinai Youth Choir, conducted by Joan Dolgin and accompanied by Arlene Lerer. Join us to celebrate the accomplishments of our youth. The concert is made possible through a gift from the Temple Sinai Youth, Music and Choir Endowment Fund.

 

Our Yiddish Heritage

Sisters of Sheynville

Friday April 16, 2010 • 8.00 p.m.

"Newish and Jewish—Klezmer takes up swing, or vice versa, in the person of the Sisters of Sheynville, a new band of Jewish women reinterpreting '30s and '40s jazz. Religious homogeneity never sounded so good." (The Toronto Star) The Sisters of Sheynville were named Vocal Group of the Year at the 2008 Canadian Folk Music Awards. Also featured will be  Temple Sinai’s own filosof Harvey Atkin, and Ben Steinberg, who will lead us in singing. This concert is made possible through a gift from the Robert Gustin Memorial Fund.

 

Ben Steinberg Musical Legacy Award Concert

Wednesday May 5, 2010 • 8.00 p.m.

The 28th presentation of the Ben Steinberg Musical Legacy Award Concert will be performed by our winner, a Jewish artist at the threshold of his/her career. The concert is made possible through the gifts of Helen and Joseph Berman and the Darren Kendal Memorial Endowment Fund.

 

Anne Strom Memorial Concert-in-the-Round

Friday June 18, 2010 • 8.00 p.m.

Our performer will be pianist, vocalist, and composer Jordan Klapman. This concert is made possible through a gift from the Anne Strom Memorial Fund.
